Open the windows
Two minutes of cross-ventilation is the single most effective step. The room you walk back into is the one that takes a scent reset.
“A guest can sense a room that has been attended to before they sit down.”
Mist on linen
Curtains first, cushions second, throws third. Avoid direct mist on wood, paper, or screens. A light pass across a meter of linen is enough.
Light the lamp
If the lamp is already filled, light the wick for three minutes and extinguish. The diffusion continues after the flame is gone.
Reset the surfaces
Wipe the tray, replace the towels, square up the cushions. A guest can sense a room that has been attended to even before they sit down.
Charcoal, only when guests arrive
We do not pre-light charcoal. The smoke loses its meaning if it has been hanging in the room for an hour. Light when the host hears the door.
Sit down once
Sit in every seat in the room for a moment before guests arrive. You will notice the missing cushion, the high lamp, the cold draft from the AC. The room finishes itself when you stop moving.
